Beginning in 2001, we collected information on flowering dates of peonies grown as cut flowers and as ornamentals at the UAF Georgeson Botanical Garden. We are interested in defining "early, mid and late" season as it relates to Interior, Alaska. Growers around the state can use this information to compare how early or late their season is compared to ours. The dates are listed by year on a series o charts listing cultivars alphabetically.
Grower cooperators around Alaska are helping to develop a statewide chart of growing sequence including bloom times. Each grower planted five 'Sarah Bernhardt' peonies and installed a datalogger to record air and soil temperature as well as soil moisture and relative humidity. Over the next five years we will record growth sequences at each site and attempt to create models to predict bloom time. The data will be available soon in the Phenology study.
